With nearly 50 million Americans living in poverty, according to an October report from the U.s. Census Bureau, the food pantries have increasingly become a lifeline for those in need, especially the families and seniors.
In Huntley, car and foot traffic at the food pantry, Grafton, 12191-B Smith Drive in Huntley, reflect census data have been with more than 200 area family recently received a package that included a Thanksgiving dinner, bread sauce, cranberry sauce, onions, potatoes, garnish, vege tins and baking mixes.
“If we have any baked goods, we sent to them as well,” said Board member food pantry, Grafton Harriet Ford.
In some ways a test run for Thanksgiving is non-profit kitchen. Next month it expects to distribute more than 200 Christmas dinner.
“This is up there,” said Ford, noted the pantry did not record the numbers distribution. “I think more than 200 being the highest ever in the us.”
