Health insurance premiums among private-employer based on a plan that increases, requiring employees to pay a larger part of the premiums in each paycheck. A new study confirms the effect was felt in all 50 States, as these costs are growing faster than household income.
Funding the Commonwealth analyzing data State and federal level and reported a total premium for family coverage increased by 50% in all States from 2003 to 2010. Annual employee share premiums also surged 63% during the same period. Per person deductibles doubled.
“In 2010, 74% of workers use personal based health plan-employer faces a deductible,” said Sara Collins, vice president of affordable health insurance for The Commonwealth Fund. “In 2003, none of them face the deductible. And, as people see more of their wages go to premium, they see less coverage with high deductibles.
In 2010, the average total premiums paid by the families in each State per year is $ 13,871. If this trend continues at the level before the enactment of the affordable care ACT, the family will pay 72% more for premium 2020-nearly $ 24,000. Health reform aims to slow premium growth by 1% per year, saving families and employers $ 2,161 per year by 2020.
